چکیده

Introduction A novel antimicrobial mechanism of neutrophils involves the release of neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) into the local environment to bind pathogens. NETs are composed of chromatin, and it has been proposed that a source of autoantigens in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) could be increased NETs production. Interferon (IFN)-a is known to be a key player in the pathogenesis of SLE. In Juvenile-onset SLE (JSLE) patients with generally more severe disease, an IFN signature is almost invariably shown at early stages of disease, suggesting that activation of the type-I IFN pathway may be especially important in the induction of the disease process.

Neutrophil extracellular trap-mediated activation of endosomal toll-like receptors induce immune activation in juvenile-onset systemic lupus erythematosus

Introduction Juvenile-onset Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (JSLE) is a multisystem autoimmune disorder characterized by the overproduction of autoantibodies against nuclear selfantigens. Activated neutrophils may undergo cell death by NETosis, forming mesh-like structures termed Neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs). Comprising of DNA, histones and antimicrobial proteins, increasing evidence impl...

Association of HLA-DRB1 Alleles in Juvenile-onset Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) in Iranian Children

Introduction Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) is a complex autoimmune and inflammatory disease. Many studies show HLA alleles can be associated with SLE. The aim of this study was to determine the association of HLA-DRB1 alleles with juvenile- onset in Iranian children. Materials and Methods At a case – control study, 31 children with systemic lupus erythematosus (case group) who referred to ...

At the Bedside: Neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) as targets for biomarkers and therapies in autoimmune diseases.

Neutrophil extracellular traps are associated with a unique form of cell death distinct from apoptosis or necrosis, whereby invading microbes are trapped and killed. Neutrophil extracellular traps can contribute to autoimmunity by exposing autoantigens, inducing IFN-α production, and activating the complement system. The association of neutrophil extracellular traps with autoimmune diseases, pa...

Celastrol Inhibits Inflammatory Stimuli-Induced Neutrophil Extracellular Trap Formation

Neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) are web-like structures released by activated neutrophils. Recent studies suggest that NETs play an active role in driving autoimmunity and tissue injury in diseases including rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). The purpose of this study was to investigate if celastrol, a triterpenoid compound, can inhibit NET formation induced...

Clinical and serological manifestations associated with interferon-α levels in childhood-onset systemic lupus erythematosus

OBJECTIVE To determine the serum levels of interferon alpha in childhood-onset systemic lupus erythematosus patients, their first-degree relatives and healthy controls and to evaluate the associations between serum interferon alpha and disease activity, laboratory findings and treatment features. METHODS We screened consecutive childhood-onset systemic lupus erythematosus patients in a longit...
